Proud Women of Africa is an ongoing narrative which documents female activists and their personal or public struggles to affect social change in the communities in which they live. Some of the women actively campaign for change. Others encourage change by setting an example. But all, in their own way, work hard to change the way they are viewed by the world around them.
This series began with the discovery that many of Africa’s most influential female activists are ordinary women, who fight for change, away from the limelight, unknown and unappreciated. These women should be celebrated, they should be seen as role models. Yet, sadly, in most cases, no one will ever know their names or hear their stories.
