Proud Women of Africa is an ongoing, long-term project which documents female activists and their personal or public struggles to affect social change in the communities in which they live. This series began with the discovery that many of Africa’s most influential female activists are ordinary women, who try to make a difference, away from the limelight, unknown and unappreciated.

Some women campaign for change. Others encourage change by setting an example. But all, in their own way, work hard to change the way the world sees them.
